Corporal Harrison

Robert was the first of four sons born to Charles and Mary Edmond nee LANE (Tuesday’s post The Young Father). He is remembered on his parents’ headstone but is buried some distance from them in a Commonwealth War Grave.

Information about his army service is sparse on the CWGC website – and his service number in the index differs from that on the grave marker.

The birth of a daughter, Dorothy G., was registered in Ripon in 1934, mother’s maiden surname GREENHOW, but I cannot find a record of the marriage of Robert and Vera Beatrice.

I haven’t made any progress connecting Robert to his forebears on the FamilySearch Shared Tree. This is how things stand today.

  1. What a delightful photo, Ian.
A possible wife for Robert Harrison might be Beatrice V Small ? A marriage in 1931 in Scarborough could this be the one?

    1. Name spelling mistake – Correction: Vena Beatrice Small (1905, Kent) married Robert found information in Kath’s Genealogy information. Later married Cyril Hardwick

      1. Thanks for the suggestion, Linda. I noticed the Small marriage but held off until the “Mother’s Maiden Name: Greenhow” (for Robert’s daughter Dorothy) could be reconciled. I wondered if “Beatrice V” had been married before but thanks to your lead I found today “Viena Beatrice Small” registered in Dover in 1905. She is buried in St Oswald’s as “Vena Hardwick”. I don’t think I have Kath’s notes on this. She has “Mrs Harrison” in Filey Genealogy & Connections.
