Doris May was the fourth and last child of John Alexander DOUGLAS and Annie Brown CRAWFORD. “Jacker”, a fisherman and a fine footballer, died before Doris reached her first birthday. I have given Doris a place on the Shared Tree but need to find more information to confirm her marriage to Cyril DODGSON in 1933 and her death in 2004. There are several curious discrepancies in the Douglas family sources, in given names and dates. John Alexander’s headstone in St Oswald’s churchyard, says he “passed away 3rd March 1814 aged 36 years”. His death was registered in March Q 1915, at age 35.

This detail is from a photograph taken in 2012 (with colour contrast adjusted for clarity). The stone has since been restored but the erroneous date was hidden by flowers in May five years ago!
