On Thursday, I thought George LINDLEY had married Elizabeth ROGERS. This morning I set about making good on my promise to update her anniversary. After three hours of delving, I still wasn’t sure of her maiden surname. OSBORNE maybe, before she became Mrs FOWLER and had a few children. Our George Lindley appears to have married Mrs Foster after his first wife Maria McQUIN died but there is a problem with the chronology. The marriage was registered in the final quarter of 1881 and Maria’s death in the June Quarter of 1882.
The only solid evidence I have for Elizabeth and George is this –

In loving memory of ELIZABETH, the beloved wife of GEORGE LINDLEY of Filey, late of York, who died May 30th 1900, aged 51 years.
‘Rest loved one, rest
Our loss is thy eternal gain’
Also of the above GEORGE LINDLEY, who died April 13th 1921, aged 80 years, interred at New Shildon.
I have very little to say about today’s chosen people but they are all on the Shared Tree and five have memorials in St Oswald’s churchyard.

Four years ago in Another Soldier, I promised to look further into the death of Henry BEAUMONT. If only days were longer…
