Slim Pickings

All but Thomas ANDREW have FamilySearch IDs, so feel free to log in there and attempt to resolve my orange uncertainties. Thomas is a singleton who appears in Filey without any back story and dies leaving only one piece of information – his final address was No.1 Belle Vue Street, Filey.

Today’s married couple was initially George ANGEL and Elizabeth DARLEY – until I discovered Elizabeth was a widow when she hooked up with the young farmer. In 1841 she is in Cayton with George, her daughter Elizabeth Darley, and the mysterious Charlotte listed as 34-year-old George’s “granddaughter”. George is a widower in 1851 but his granddaughter Charlotte is still with him. Five-year-old grandson George D PASHBY is in residence too. Elizabeth FEATHERSTONE’s death in 1833 is obviously suspect if she was Mrs Angel in 1841. After 1851 I couldn’t find George in England and Wales and suspected he had emigrated. Several sources appear to place him in Canada with other Angels from Hutton Buscel but the dates and circumstances were not convincing enough for me to colour them green.

Emily Annie JACKSON is with her widowed mother in Scarborough in 1911 and, it seems, on her own and unmarried in 1921. Her death at the age of 43 appears to be a good fit but I felt more evidence was needed.

Christopher ROUTH was baptised in Hawes and the woman he married in Filey in 1856 had travelled much further, from Bungay in Suffolk, to make a life on the Yorkshire coast. Christopher and the former Ann BORRETT don’t appear to have had any children but at least one of Christopher’s brothers also came to Filey and married into an established extended family network here. “Routh” was given to a number of local children as a middle name. The possible death of Christopher in 1909 was registered in Keighley and requires supporting evidence.

There may be more slim pickings tomorrow.
