Correction: Sarah (Varey) WILLIS 1840-1897
Tom Morgan Coupland is the son of Thomas Edward ELLIS (AP 1475 · burial · 29 August). He seems to have been a career soldier in the Green Howards and is not with his wife Milcah Ann (PEARSON) when The Register is taken at the beginning of the Second World War.
Carl SHNUTZ is a waiter when he marries Mary WILLIAMSON at Filey St Oswald’s in 1879, and head waiter Carl SCHMITZ in Ilkley two years later. His wife is Maria, a Scot. Somewhat surprisingly, they have a seven-year-old daughter, Edith, born in Scarborough. I was unable to follow them. Perhaps they went to Carl’s homeland, Germany.
Sarah (Varey) has lost her brackets on the Shared Tree. Susannah VAREY’s husband George WILLIS was taken by the sea not long after they married, and before she married again she gave birth to two children, Sarah (Varey) and Charles (Varey). Susannah married Edward HARRISON in 1835 and had three children with him. When Sarah married William HUNTER in 1845 she told the clerk that her father was Edward Willis. That’s my story anyway.
