Two children of Morris BELLWOOD and Ann ROWLIN have been Anniversary People but I had little to say about either of them. I did promise to do some work on the family and Alfred’s birthday today is an opportunity to see if I kept it. (Alfred’s is the only birthday on today’s list.)

My apologies. It looks as if I didn’t add any sources at all to the children for whom I created IDs. And now that it is Redux policy not to put information (or headstone photographs) on FamilySearch, I must leave such work to others.

Alfred left home in Gristhorpe after 1881. The enumerator in 1901 found him at The Briary Cottage in Ilkley, married to Minnie née SPENCER and with two infant children. A gardener’s son, he was employed as  – a gardener. After the birth of Mary in Ilkley, the family crossed the Pennines to live in Eccles. Doris was born in the Lancashire town but in 1921 the parents and two girls were back in Yorkshire, living at Wharfeside Cottage, Burley in Wharfedale. I haven’t attempted to follow the boys. Alfred died in May 1957 and he is buried in Burley. Minnie’s death was registered in Worth Valley ten years later.

(A hopeful shout out to Sue Bellwood – as was – a lost friend from Stoke-on-Trent, way back in time. Whaaaa!)

George FEATHERSTONE and his wife Emma baptised their first child as Ann Elizabeth but the civil birth and death registers know her as Annie.

FamilySearch Blue Hints give “Kate SHIPMAN” her maiden surname and the date of marriage to Frederick Charles. They are buried in St Oswald’s but the grave, like most within a kerb, is a sorry sight.

In loving memory of KATE SHIPMAN, died Nov 22nd 1934, aged 61 years.

Also, FREDERICK CHARLES SHIPMAN, died 19th March 1960, aged 84 years.

Simpson CLARKE married a Filey STOREY but they raised their family in Hull and neighbouring Cottingham. Their son Frederick William married Norah Mary RITCHIE who was lost from RMS Lusitania (AP 773 · death · 7 May).

Ellen CREASER, the youngest of nine children born to Edward and Elizabeth née NEWTON, was born in Filey. She did not marry, working mostly as a machinist/tailoress. As a patient at Clifton Hospital, York in 1911, her occupation was listed as “housekeeper”. She died at the hospital nine years later and her body was brought home for burial in an unmarked grave.
