A passing ship’s tanks were cleansed and paraffin wax tidelines on Bay beaches persisted for days.

Filey Genealogy & Connections seems to believe that Richard VERRILL was born in Hinderwell to John and Eleanor née Burton and baptised in the village three days later. He has erroneously been given in marriage to Ann SMALES. The Richard Verrill to whom Ann was betrothed was born in 1779 and still alive in 1851 when the census was taken. I think there was a third Richard Verrill, a contemporary of the other two. Two sources on the Shared Tree for Richard [MGB9-53F] are 1841 census returns for different Verrill families. In short, other Richards are responsible for a small army of descendants, not today’s birthday boy.

Farley MOONE is possibly my oldest AP to date but I have failed to discover any more information about him.

William JEWISON and Ann PORRIT married at St Oswald’s. They had three children. Firstborn William didn’t marry and Emma died aged 2. Their youngest son Robert married Jane BENSON in 1874, the year following their first child’s birth (registered as John Jewison Benson). A second son, Henry, born in 1877 didn’t live long enough to have a second birthday.

Edith CHAPMAN is the great-granddaughter of Mortimer (AP 882 · burial · 24 May) and daughter of “Shaggy”. She married William Watkinson WILLIS (AP 125 · death · 21 January) at St Oswald’s on the first day of 1927 and had five children with him. Her last address was 47 Scarborough Road, Filey.

Luke BULMER is the grandson of Luke (AP 1822 · marriage · 6 September). He married Clara Alice JENNISON in Dewsbury in 1911 and died fourteen years later.
