George “Boysher” BOYNTON was the son of “Baltic” and Ann SAYERS and an uncle of George Whiteley Boynton (AP 1100 · death · 29 June). He was baptised at the Ebenezer a month after his birth and married Sarah CAPPLEMAN at St Oswald’s in April 1899. They had four children. George, a fisherman, did not marry again following Sarah’s early death.

In loving memory of SARAH, beloved wife of GEORGE BOYNTON, who died April 6th 1918, aged 42 years.

‘No one knew the parting

Nor what the parting cost

But God in His great mercy

Has gained what we have lost’

Also, their son MATTHEW BOYNTON, who died May 29 1930, aged 16 years.

The stone slab on the grave has not weathered well and I have yet to photograph it in revealing light. It remembers George and Sarah’s daughter Elizabeth Ann (died 17 April 1991 aged 90) and her husband Matthew Jenkinson CAMMISH (died 1 November 1976 aged 76).

Jane DAY features on Filey Genealogy & Connections as the “guesswork wife” of Irish coastguard Henry HAYES. A Scarborough death registration for Jane Hayes in 1916 appears to offer support but more is needed. Where was Jane in 1911?

She was with Henry, her husband of forty years, at 1 Cromwell Avenue. Aged 73, Jane was a lodging house keeper. But what was her maiden name? Henry declares on the census form that they had been married 40 years and had not had children.

Filey is given as Jane’s birthplace in all censuses when married but I cannot find a likely Jane Wearn/Wearne born in the area. Curiously, the heartland for Wearn is in Hampshire and Wearne in Cornwall. The Surname Map of the UK records none of either on the Yorkshire Coast. So, who knows?

David OVERFIELD is not related by blood to Anniversary People John Gerald or Madge Elizabeth. Ada Amelia BLADES is the daughter of Jefferson (AP 42 · burial · 7 January).

The Scarborough family of Betsy Ann ADAMSON needs some “merging attention” but Tom CAPPLEMAN has been given to her in marriage since I wrote about him five years ago.

Grace WILSON is the mother of Percy Fred William AVISON (AP 567 · death · 4 April). Kath attaches a note to her record on FG&C.

1891; a widow living on Murray St. A Milliner, baby linen & fancy goods shop who lived with her son Percy and widowed mother Jane Wilson aged 61yrs a dressmaker from Edinburgh. [I] wonder if she was Major Wilson’s sister – or was it coincidence that she lived next door to him when she was a widow?

RootsMagic suggests Grace and “Major” were not related. I delved a bit deeper and couldn’t make a family connection.
